Men from the Benue State Police Command have taken Akpo Igwe, a 40-year-old motorcycle rider, into custody on suspicion of raping a pregnant woman who was eight months pregnant in the Irabi Council Ward of the Obi Local Government Area of the state.
According to a family member, the victim was returning from the market when she stopped the motorcycle to have it take her home. During the ride, the motorcycle allegedly deviated into a bush and raped the victim, according to the source.
The incident occurred on Wednesday around 7 p.m., as the woman was returning from the market, according to the source. She flagged down an Okada man and offered to take her home in exchange.
“While they were traveling, the Okada man deviated from the main road and went into a nearby bush, where he shackled her and raped her. The Okada man assumed the woman had died when she collapsed during the process and dragged her out of the bush to a riverbank, where she remained until the following day.
The victim “found that she was too weak to stand when she woke up in the morning, so she just laid there praying for help.”
The victim’s family, according to the source, had been looking for her at home all night until she was found by the riverbank.
“We quickly rushed her to the hospital when we found her in that condition, and the incident was reported to the nearest police station, which led to the suspect’s arrest. The woman is approximately eight months pregnant and is anticipated to give birth in the coming weeks, according to a family source. In Lagos, contraband worth N12.8 billion is destroyed by customs
