Food costs keep on ascending in July-NBS

Beef, tomatoes, beans, and yams are among the food items that saw price increases in July, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

In its Selected Food Prices Watch Report for July 2023, which was released in Abuja on Friday, it made the declaration.

The report expressed that the normal cost of 1kg of boneless hamburger expanded by 30.17 percent from N2,118.84 kept in July 2022 to N2,758.13 in July 2023.

“On a month-on-month premise, 1kg of boneless hamburger expanded by 3.96 percent in July from the N2,653.02 kept in June 2023.”

It said the normal cost of 1kg of tomato on a year-on-year premise rose by 24.88 percent from N446.81 in July 2022 to N557.96 in July 2023.

“On a month-on-month premise, 1kg of tomato expanded by 1.95 percent in July from the N547.28 kept in June 2023.”

Essentially, the report expressed that the normal cost of 1kg of Earthy colored Beans (sold free) expanded by 19.73 percent on a year-on-year premise from N562.55 in July 2022 to N673.53 in July 2023.

“On a month-on-month premise, the cost expanded by 3.44 percent from the N651.12 kept in June 2023.”

The NBS said the normal cost of 1kg of Onion bulb rose by 26.65 percent on a year-on-year premise from N396.96 in July 2022 to N502.73 in July 2023.

“On a month-on-month premise, the cost expanded by 2.38 percent in July from the N491.04 kept in June 2023,” the NBS added.

The report expressed that the normal cost of 1kg sweet potato tuber expanded by 38.40 percent on a year-on-year premise from N389.75 in July 2022 to N539.41 in July 2023.

“From N510.77 in June 2023, 1 kilogram of yam tuber increased by 5.61 percent month over month.”

It said that the normal cost of 1 liter of Palm Oil expanded by 35.70 percent on a year-on-year premise, from N890.67 in July 2022 to N1208.62 in July 2023.

“On a month-on-month premise, it expanded by 2.93 percent in July from the N1174.20 kept in June 2023. ”

On state profile examination, the report showed that the most elevated typical cost of 1kg of boneless hamburger was kept in Anambra at N3,500.84, while the least was kept in Kogi state at N1,812.44.

It expressed that Akwa Ibom recorded the greatest cost of 1kg of Tomato at N1,001.73, while the most minimal cost was kept in Kogi at N220.00

The report expressed that Ebonyi recorded the greatest cost of 1kg of
beans brown (sold free) at N1,022.45, while the most reduced cost was kept in Katsina at N474.99.

The NBS said the most elevated normal cost of 1kg of Onion bulb was kept in Abia at N819.00, while the least cost was kept in Kano at N297.41.

Moreover, the most noteworthy typical cost of 1kg of Sweet potato tuber was kept in Akwa Ibom at N999.61, while the least was kept in Adamawa at N281.33.

According to the report, Ogun had the highest average price for a liter of palm oil—N1,480—while Kogi had the lowest—N890.22.

Examination by zone showed that the typical cost of 1kg of boneless meat was most elevated in the South-East at N3,390.38, trailed by the South at N2,805.91, while the least cost was kept in the North-East at N2,418.44.

The average price of one kilogram of tomato was highest in the South-South and South-East, where it was N917.63 and lowest in the North-East, at N353.37.

The report expressed that the South-East recorded the most noteworthy normal cost of 1kg of earthy colored Beans sold free at N921.54, trailed by the South-West at N731.48.

North-Focal recorded the least cost at N550.10,” the NBS expressed.
