NAWOJ South South collaborates, addresses epidermic

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, South South Zone has called for partnership among relevant stakeholders in ensuring proactive approaches to epidermic outbreaks

The Association made the call in a statement signed by the Zonal Vice Chairperson, Comrade Stella Macaulay and Zonal Secretary, Comrade Eunice Emeyazia, to mark the 2023 International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, held every December 27.

The South South NAWOJ body said effective collaboration among individuals, communities and States, as well as regional and international organizations, in all stages of epidemic management, would help prepare the society to adequately manage any epidermic

The women journalists reminded the people of the devastating impacts of infectious diseases and epidemics on human lives and socio- economic development, noting that global health crises was devastating to the vulnerable groups, especially women and children.

The body called on the government to take up its responsibility and ensure resilient and robust health systems, capable of catering for the vulnerable or people in vulnerable situations.

While calling on government and non governmental organizations to intensify advocacy on the issue, NAWOJ South South urged the media as partners in progress, to use their medium to carry out programmes to highlight the importance of the prevention of, preparedness for and partnership against epidemics, as effective measures to prevent and respond to epidemics.
