Lagos Government Seals Surulere Church Following Residents’ Complaints Over Late Night Noise Pollution.

The Lagos State Government has sealed The All Christians Gathering Ministry in Surulere following repeated complaints from residents over alleged late night noise pollution that reportedly disrupted their sleep and peaceful enjoyment of their homes.

The enforcement action was carried out on Sunday, November 8, 2026, by environmental officials as part of the state government’s efforts to address noise pollution and enforce environmental regulations across Lagos.

According to reports, residents had raised concerns about excessive noise from the church’s activities, particularly during late night hours. The complaints reportedly prompted government intervention after the disturbances continued to affect people living within the surrounding community.

The development highlights the growing tension between religious activities and residents’ rights to a peaceful living environment, particularly in densely populated urban neighbourhoods such as Surulere.

Although freedom of worship remains a fundamental right, religious institutions are also expected to conduct their activities responsibly and comply with applicable environmental standards. Excessive noise can disrupt sleep, affect residents’ wellbeing and create avoidable conflicts within communities.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has continued to enforce environmental regulations against establishments accused of violating noise pollution standards. Previous enforcement exercises have involved churches, hotels, lounges and other businesses across different parts of the state.

In September 2026, for instance, LASEPA sealed 12 establishments across Lagos over alleged persistent environmental violations, including noise pollution and failure to comply with regulatory directives, according to News reports.

The latest action involving The All Christians Gathering Ministry reinforces the importance of balancing religious freedom with environmental responsibility and the rights of neighbouring residents.

As Lagos continues to expand, effective enforcement of environmental standards will remain important in promoting peaceful coexistence between religious institutions, businesses and residential communities.

The state government’s action also serves as a reminder that environmental regulations apply to all establishments, regardless of their religious or commercial status.
