The Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, is preparing to hear a case that seeks a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test for Liam, the son of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The news was confirmed in a statement issued by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team.
Joseph Aloba, the deceased singer’s father, had filed a lawsuit requesting a DNA test for his grandson. The statement, titled “Aloba Family Seeks Court Order for DNA Test on Liam,” revealed that all necessary legal measures have been put in place to ensure the success of the case.
The family is seeking a court order directing the test to be conducted at a recognized and accredited government or private medical facility in Lagos State, with the expenses covered by the applicant. The court is also being asked to order Mohbad’s wife, Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba, to submit herself and Liam for the DNA test.
Additionally, the family has requested an order granting permission to the chief pathologist in charge of Mohbad’s remains at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, to take samples for the DNA test.
Efforts to serve the court documents to Mohbad’s wife at her Lekki home were unsuccessful, as she was not present. The legal team is exploring alternative methods to ensure that all court processes are properly served.
Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, passed away at the age of 27 under controversial circumstances. His death sparked controversies on social media. The Lagos State Police Command formed a special investigation team to probe the singer’s death, which led to the arrest of Naira Marley and others.
The exhumation of Mohbad’s body for an autopsy took place on September 21, 2024, in order to determine the cause of death. The autopsy has been completed, and the police are awaiting the results.
The court will now proceed with the hearing of the case, and the Aloba family is hopeful that justice will be served in determining the paternity of Liam.
