The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has reported significant achievements in the fight against terrorism. In April, the military conducted coordinated ground and air operations that resulted in the killing of over 715 terrorists and the rescue of 465 kidnapped hostages. Major-General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operation, emphasized the commitment to defeating terrorist groups and preventing further harm to citizens. The operations included ambushes, raids, and fighting patrols, with the air force targeting terrorist leaders and their bases. In addition to the neutralization of terrorists, the troops arrested 146 individuals and recovered 937 weapons and over 23,000 rounds of ammunition.
They also disrupted the oil theft estimated to be worth over N2 billion. The military highlighted specific engagements, such as the neutralization of senior terrorist commanders and the destruction of terrorist hideouts. In the North-East, troops conducted missions in various areas, resulting in the elimination of 248 terrorists, the arrest of 422 individuals, and the rescue of 163 kidnapped hostages. Furthermore, 714 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, along with their families, surrendered, and a significant number of weapons were recovered. Operations in other regions of the country also yielded positive outcomes, including the neutralization of criminals, arrests, and hostage rescues. The military’s efforts in combating terrorism remain ongoing, with a focus on ensuring the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.
