The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the brutal murder of a commercial motorcyclist, known as Yakubu, who was discovered deceased under tragic circumstances. The incident occurred on Friday, with Yakubu’s lifeless body found along the Oke-Agbe-Arigidi Akoko road in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area, where he lay in a pool of blood, bearing multiple machete wounds that suggest a violent attack.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the assailants not only inflicted severe injuries on Yakubu but also brutally cut his throat before making off with his motorcycle. This shocking incident marks the fourth similar occurrence in the region within a week, following the deaths of three individuals, including one farmer and two other motorcyclists, all of whom were killed in comparable violent circumstances.
This spate of violence has raised alarm among local residents, particularly within the community of okada riders, who have expressed growing concern over their safety. The increasing frequency of such attacks has created a climate of fear, prompting urgent calls for heightened security measures.
In response to the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed that a thorough investigation is now underway. She emphasized the commitment of the police force to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. “We are aware of the incident and an investigation has begun into it. With the killings of commercial motorcyclists in the state, the command is not resting on its oars to ensure these culprits are brought to book,” she stated.
As part of the investigative process, the body of the deceased has been transferred to the morgue at the State Specialist Hospital in Ikare Akoko. The police are actively pursuing leads and soliciting information from the public to aid in their efforts to track down the perpetrators.
This tragic incident not only highlights the dangers faced by okada riders in Ondo State but also underscores the urgent need for strengthened law enforcement and community safety measures. As investigations proceed, both the police and the local community are hopeful for a swift resolution and justice for Yakubu and other victims of these violent crimes.
