As the entire citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are basking in the euphoria of the 60th Independence anniversary, the Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Chief Conatus Agu Ejidike, JP has admonished the spirit of oneness, endurance, perseverance, and determination of the people of this great country in keeping the flag flying.
Nigeria Pillar of Sports, Ejidike who saluted the undying spirit of our founding fathers sounded that their labour as emphasized in our national them should not be in vain.
According to Ejidike, Nigeria is a conglomeration of people of diverse ethnic backgrounds which the colonial masters deliberately put together for the perpetuation of imperialism.
” The 1960 independence was a mirage; a colonial arrangement to keep us under their rule and make us look unto them for purpose of exploitation, but this is the area where we need to wake up from our slumber. The fragile political freedom gave way for arson, mayhem, civil war, capitalism, oppression and nepotism which till today, we seem not to have learnt from the past errors and mistakes. Be that as it may, our remarkable progress has not surpassed our misdeeds. It is in this sense that I want every Nigerians particularly our leaders to adopt the spirit of sportsmanship. “
In sports, nobody discuses tribes, nobody remembers religion, nobody talks about the quota system; players and stakeholders strive to accomplish goals and objectives which everyone celebrates”, Ejidike noted.
The sports philanthropist believes Nigeria has been first in major sports events: first African country to win Olympic gold medal, first African country to rank 5th in FIFA rankings, first African country to be win Under 17 World Cup, and produced distinguished players and athletes in the world of sports. ” That is the spirit of sportsmanship “.
He appealed to political leaders and party leaders to give the nation a policy directive that will give citizens hope and make Nigerians be proud of our motherland.
Nigeria at 60 means the nation has grown to adulthood and expected to have stabilized politically, economically, and socially than whipping up the sentiment that brings about agitation for separation.
Ejidike enjoins Nigeria to be patriotic and imbibe the spirit of nationalism as manifested in the field of sports.
He called on all citizenry to rally support for our leaders and eschew pull-down syndrome as he prays God to bless Nigeria with visionary leaders.
