A vigilante member in the Okpanam community area of Delta State, Mr. Samuel Okoro, has been shot dead by kidnappers. The incident occurred after Okoro trailed the kidnappers who had abducted victims in the community on Sunday and moved them into the bush.
According to reports, Okoro saw the kidnappers in the bush and started trailing them, unaware that they had noticed him. The kidnappers subsequently shot and killed him. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the killing and urged other vigilante members to always inform the police of their activities
Edafe advised vigilante members not to pursue kidnappers or armed robbers alone, emphasizing the importance of collaborating with the police. “Yes, the man is a vigilante in Okpanam and was killed by kidnappers. We heard that Mr. Okoro saw the kidnappers in the bush and was trailing them before they shot him. So, we are advising others to always inform the police and not do that after kidnappers or armed robbers alone,” Edafe said
The Okpanam and Issele-Azagba areas have experienced a series of kidnappings and killings in recent times, with farmers abandoning their farms due to fear of being kidnapped or killed. This incident highlights the need for increased security measures in the region
