The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Lagos has disclosed that thousands of suspected Boko Haram members have been arrested across the state. Commander of the Lagos CJTF, Mr. Kumar Sanda, made this revelation while speaking at an award ceremony in Lagos, where he highlighted the CJTF’s ongoing efforts to prevent the infiltration of Boko Haram insurgents and bandits fleeing the North into Lagos

The CJTF has been monitoring trailer parks, quarries, and markets, where people from the North tend to gather upon arriving in Lagos. According to Sanda, “If I should mention the number of Boko Haram members we have arrested in Lagos State, people will not believe it. But we have arrested thousands.” The CJTF’s commitment to upholding the mandate of the Lagos State government is aimed at ensuring the state does not become a haven for insurgents escaping military operations in the North.
The CJTF has also emphasized the importance of vigilance and community involvement in preventing Boko Haram’s activities in Lagos. Sanda noted that “not all Abokis are bad, but not all are good either.” The group is working closely with the Lagos State government to keep the state free from Boko Haram and banditry.
Sanda cautioned against assuming that all terrorists operating in the North are Nigerians, claiming that many insurgents and bandits are non-Nigerians who infiltrate the country’s borders and pose as citizens. He stated, “Whenever you see a man from Borno State, you might feel scared because of Boko Haram. But many of those you see are not truly Nigerians.”
In a related development, the CJTF had previously arrested six suspected Boko Haram members who were on the wanted list of the military in Borno State. This highlights the group’s continued efforts to tackle security challenges in Lagos
The CJTF’s efforts to prevent Boko Haram’s activities in Lagos demonstrate the group’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s residents. With thousands of suspected Boko Haram members arrested, the CJTF’s vigilance and community involvement are crucial in keeping Lagos free from insurgency.
