According to a statement by the Nigerian Army, the terrorists attempted to destroy swamp bogeys recently acquired by the Borno State Government to help clear waterways in the area. However, the soldiers fought back strongly, with reinforcements from troops in Baga, and engaged the terrorists in a gun battle that lasted over two hours.
The terrorists were ultimately forced to retreat, leaving behind scores of neutralized terrorists and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials. Although the terrorists managed to make minimal incursion, resulting in the destruction of an ambulance and two other vehicles, as well as wounding some personnel, the air component platforms are currently conducting follow-on pursuit exploitation on the waterways to further decimate the terrorists.
The successful defense of the naval base is a testament to the bravery and professionalism of the Nigerian military. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the military to combat terrorism and insurgency in the region.
The Nigerian Army’s statement noted that the troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralized scores of terrorists and recovered IED materials. The military’s continued efforts to protect the country from terrorist attacks are commendable, and their bravery in the face of danger is a credit to the nation.
This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between security agencies. The Nigerian military’s efforts to combat terrorism and insurgency are ongoing, and their success in repelling this attack is a significant victory in the fight against terrorism.
