Dangote Industries Limited has distanced itself from a truck involved in a fatal accident in Enugu on Wednesday, insisting that the vehicle was not part of its fleet but was “operated by a third party.”
The accident, which occurred around 9 a.m., involved a Howo truck and a Toyota Corolla, sparking online claims that the truck belonged to Dangote Group due to the “brand signature” it carried.
In a statement on Thursday, the company dismissed the reports, describing them as misleading. It explained that the vehicle in question was not owned by the Group and pledged to investigate how its logo was being used illegally.
“Dangote Industries Limited is engaging with the appropriate agencies to find out why the truck was carrying our logo when it is not part of our fleet. We will also introduce tighter measures to prevent unauthorised use of our brand identity,” the statement read.
The company stressed that it was “compelled by misinformation” to clarify the matter and urged the public and media outlets to refrain from spreading unverified claims.
It further assured that it would cooperate fully with the authorities investigating the crash, while warning against attempts to exploit the tragedy for malicious or financial purposes.
“We strongly reject attempts to exploit tragedies like this. Investigations should be allowed to run their course without interference,” the company added.
