Bandits have hijacked a commercial vehicle in Benue State, killing the driver and abducting five passengers. The incident occurred along the Ogobia-Adoka road in Otukpo Local Government Area, with the attackers forcing the vehicle off the road and into a bush before opening fire on the driver, identified as Arrow of God from Aila in Agatu LGA.
The bandits ambushed the vehicle, which was fully loaded with goods, and marched the passengers into the forest.
Residents describe the route as “increasingly unsafe,” with the latest assault coming less than three weeks after armed men attacked and killed two security operatives at a checkpoint along the same route.
Villagers are in shock, with one local saying, “This road has become a danger zone. If security is not strengthened, more people may fall victim to the criminals.”
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Udeme Edet, could not be reached for comment.
Military personnel have been deployed to the area to launch a manhunt for the attackers and rescue the abducted passengers.
Efforts to reach the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, were unsuccessful
