The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said that divine mercy, not human intelligence or effort, determines safety, success, and destiny. He made this statement during a special thanksgiving service at the church’s international headquarters in Lagos, citing Anthony Joshua’s recent car accident as an example of God’s “uncommon mercy.”
Adeboye noted that Joshua’s survival was a result of God’s intervention, as he had swapped seats before the accident. The pastor shared his personal testimony, revealing that he was once a critic of Christianity but was saved through God’s mercy.
He emphasized that human ability is secondary to divine favor, saying, “God’s mercy makes one great; it is not your ability that made you who you are but God’s mercy.” Adeboye urged believers to honor God, testify to His mercy, and use their influence to draw others to faith.
Regional Pastor Oladele Balogun warned that divine mercy can be abused and lost through disobedience, citing biblical examples. He emphasized the importance of repentance, saying, “If you have lost the mercy of God, He is a merciful God. If you cry unto Him, He can still show mercy.”
The RCCG leaders called on Nigerians to turn back to God, citing the country’s challenges, and expressed their belief that the church operates under a covenant of mercy established with its founding fathers.
