“United Nigeria Airlines CRJ-900 Grounded After Abuja Bird Strike Incident Raises Aviation Safety Concerns in Nigeria”

United Nigeria Airlines has confirmed the grounding of one of its CRJ-900 aircraft following a bird strike incident during landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The incident marks the fifth bird strike involving the airline this year, raising renewed concerns over wildlife hazards at major Nigerian airports and the broader implications for aviation safety standards.

According to aviation sources and operational updates from the airline, the aircraft safely completed its landing procedure but was immediately withdrawn from service for mandatory inspection and technical assessment in line with international safety protocols. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew members. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is expected to review the incident as part of ongoing safety monitoring procedures.

Bird strikes remain a persistent challenge for airlines operating in Nigeria, particularly around busy airport environments such as Abuja and Lagos, where wildlife management and runway safety measures continue to face scrutiny. Industry experts have repeatedly called for strengthened coordination between airport authorities and environmental management agencies to reduce the frequency of such incidents and improve operational safety.

Reputable Nigerian media platforms, including Channels Television, The Punch, and The Guardian Nigeria, have consistently reported on similar aviation safety incidents, highlighting the recurring nature of bird strikes and the need for improved preventive infrastructure across the country’s aviation sector.

As investigations continue, United Nigeria Airlines has assured passengers of its commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory standards while its engineering team conducts a full technical evaluation of the affected aircraft.
