Economist and politician Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has picked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential nomination form, becoming the first aspirant to formally enter the party’s 2027 race.
The form was presented to him on Thursday night at the ADC National Secretariat in Abuja by National Organising Secretary Prince Chinedu Idigo.
Speaking after receiving the form, Hayatu-Deen said he would abide by whatever primary method the party adopts, whether direct primaries or consensus.
“Our leadership is strong, vigorous, and wise. We follow the rules in this party to the letter,” he said. I am here to pick up the nomination form to contest for the office of the president on the platform of ADC, and I have picked it up.”
Hayatu-Deen stressed that Nigerians must be free to choose leaders through open contests and credible elections. While acknowledging the race would be competitive, he said ADC’s internal process would determine its candidate.
He outlined his campaign priorities as massive job creation, reducing the cost of living, tackling insecurity, and cutting poverty by at least 60% within four years. 
“Nigeria cannot continue as the poverty capital of the world. Our people deserve prosperity, safety and responsible governance,” he said.
The aspirant said his decades of experience fixing institutions, creating jobs, and advising governments set him apart. He also expressed confidence ahead of a potential contest with other prominent aspirants, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
“I have an agenda that is compelling and energetic. I believe I have the vision and competence to govern Nigeria responsibly,” he added.
Party members described his early move as a sign of strength and organisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
