“Achraf Hakimi to Face Rape Trial in France as Appeals Court Upholds Judicial Proceedings”

Moroccan international football star and Paris Saint Germain defender Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial in France over an alleged rape case after a French appeals court rejected his attempt to halt the judicial process, marking a significant development in a case that has attracted global attention since it first emerged in 2023.

The ruling by the Versailles Court of Appeal confirms that the case will proceed to a criminal trial, with judges determining that sufficient grounds exist for the matter to be heard in court. However, no trial date has yet been announced. The decision follows a lengthy investigation initiated after a woman accused the Moroccan footballer of rape following an encounter at his residence near Paris in February 2023.

Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations and maintains that he is innocent. Following the latest court decision, the footballer reiterated his willingness to defend himself before the court, arguing that his public profile has contributed to heightened scrutiny of the case. His legal team has also challenged the allegations and questioned aspects of the evidence presented during the investigation.

The complainant’s legal representatives welcomed the appeals court ruling, describing it as a step toward allowing the judicial system to fully examine the evidence. French judicial authorities have emphasized that the decision to proceed to trial does not constitute a determination of guilt but reflects the court’s assessment that the case warrants examination before a criminal court.

Hakimi remains one of Africa’s most prominent football figures. The 27 year old has enjoyed a successful career with clubs including Paris Saint Germain and has played a key role for the Morocco National Football Team, helping elevate Moroccan football on the global stage. The ongoing legal proceedings are therefore being closely followed across Africa, Europe, and the wider football community.

As the case moves toward trial, legal experts note that the proceedings will provide both the prosecution and defense with an opportunity to present evidence and arguments before the court. Until a verdict is delivered, Hakimi remains presumed innocent under French law.
