The Edo State Government says Governor Monday Okpebholo has adopted a practical approach to governance, delivering solutions to the state’s development challenges within his first eighteen months in office.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, stated this during a press conference in Benin City.

Afegbua noted that the governor has remained focused and deliberate in addressing inherited challenges, adding that his administration has embarked on verifiable projects across the state to reverse years of underdevelopment.

According to him, the government has made significant progress in tackling infrastructural decay, weak social systems, and poor healthcare delivery.

“In the last eighteen months, we can confidently say the governor has done a lot to advance critical infrastructure in the state. This is not propaganda; journalists and residents can see the impact for themselves,” he said.

He disclosed that key infrastructure projects are nearing completion, including the flyover at Ramat Park, while construction has commenced on another flyover at Adesuwa Junction along Sapele Road. He added that efforts are also underway to rehabilitate the long-neglected Sapele Road.

Afegbua said road construction is ongoing across the state, including the Ekenwan–Gelegele Road, with government accelerating work despite the onset of the rainy season.

He further revealed that roads linking 14 communities in Uhunwonde Local Government Area are almost completed, while the Ekpoma–Uromi axis is about 95 per cent done. In Edo North, asphalting has commenced on the Ibillo Road and the Ikpeshi–Igarra Road.

On social infrastructure, the commissioner disclosed that about 80 schools are nearing completion, while 160 primary healthcare centres across the state have been completed to improve access to medical services in rural areas.

He also announced the employment of 650 teachers and the recruitment of over 1,000 health workers into the state civil service.

Afegbua added that work has resumed at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital after the settlement of outstanding debts, while the Oredo Health Centre along Sapele Road has been equipped to serve the general public.

He appealed to residents to fulfill their tax obligations to enable the government to sustain and expand developmental projects across the state.
