Anambra Police Arrest Wanted Suspect ‘Small Moto’ Over Alleged Armed Robbery, Kidnapping and Cult Activities.
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26 year old wanted suspect, Udochukwu Okafor, popularly known as “Small Moto,” over alleged involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping, cult related activities and offences linked to secessionist activities.
The suspect was apprehended on Saturday, October 24, during an intelligence led security operation in Ebenebe community, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to the police, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, carried out the operation following efforts to track down Okafor, who was reportedly on the command’s wanted list over several alleged criminal activities.
The arrest was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement released to journalists on Sunday.
Police Investigate Alleged Firearm Theft
The police said preliminary interrogation reportedly indicated that Okafor had allegedly snatched a pump action firearm from a vigilante operative in Ebenebe.
The suspect also reportedly disclosed that he possessed a locally manufactured short gun, which he and other alleged members of his gang were said to have used during their operations.
The command further alleged that Okafor admitted to belonging to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Aro Baggers,” a group suspected of involvement in cult-related violence in Awka and neighbouring communities.
However, the allegations remain subject to further investigation and judicial determination.
Investigation Continues as Police Search for Other Suspects
The Anambra State Police Command said investigations had been intensified to recover the firearms reportedly mentioned during the interrogation and establish the extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement in the offences under investigation.
Police operatives are also working to identify and apprehend other suspected members of the alleged gang who remain at large.
The command confirmed that Okafor remained in police custody as investigations continued. It also assured residents that efforts to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of criminal activities would be sustained to protect lives and property across the state.
The police said additional information would be provided as the investigation progresses.
Security Concerns in Anambra State
The arrest comes amid continuing security challenges involving armed robbery, kidnapping and cult-related violence in parts of Anambra State. Such crimes pose concerns for residents, businesses and communities, reinforcing the importance of intelligence-led policing and cooperation between security agencies and the public.
While the arrest represents a development in the police investigation, the full extent of the suspect’s alleged activities has yet to be established publicly.
The case also underscores the importance of allowing investigations and judicial proceedings to determine criminal responsibility, as an arrest or allegation does not, in itself, establish guilt.
