Youth members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s South-West have commended the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, for what they described as sustained efforts to promote youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and economic development.
The commendation reflects growing attention to the role of traditional institutions in supporting initiatives that expand opportunities for young Nigerians beyond political participation. The Ooni has, over the years, been associated with programmes and partnerships focused on entrepreneurship, skills development, technology and economic opportunities for young people.
One recent example is the Ooni’s involvement in the development of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The centre was established as an ICT-focused facility designed to promote digital learning, artificial intelligence, storytelling and leadership development among young people.
The monarch has also promoted initiatives aimed at strengthening local enterprise and youth participation in Nigeria’s economy. His OjajaMore initiative, for instance, was presented as a platform intended to support youth employment, technological advancement, local production and broader economic opportunities.
The Youths on Ground Progressive and Mentorship Initiative (YOG) also paid a royal visit to the Ooni. According to an account published by the organisation, its delegation presented its 2026 quarterly magazine and sought royal guidance and partnership on mentorship, agro-technology, civic education, grassroots empowerment and national unity. The organisation said the monarch pledged support and fatherly guidance for its youth-development activities.
The recognition also highlights a broader conversation about how traditional institutions can complement government, private-sector and civil-society efforts to address unemployment, entrepreneurship and skills development among young people across the South-West and Nigeria.
For Obaland magazine, sustainable youth empowerment ultimately depends not only on public commendations but also on measurable outcomes, including access to skills, financing, employment, technology and opportunities that enable young Nigerians to build durable livelihoods.
APC youths in the South-West commend Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, digital development and economic initiatives.
