AS IGBO LEADERS ENDORSE OKPEBHOLO’S ECONOMIC POLICIES

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday raised concerns that the rising wave of insecurity across the country may be part of a deliberate plot to destabilize Nigeria and distract the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Governor made this assertion while receiving the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Edo State Chapter, during a courtesy visit to Government House, Benin City.

Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resisting all forms of intimidation and working to ensure stability and security across the state and nation.

“No matter the intimidation, we will not succumb. What they are doing is to fuel kidnapping because they want to distract and discredit Mr. President. They did it to President Goodluck Jonathan. They succeeded then, but we will not allow it this time. Mr President is resolute,” he stated.

Welcoming the delegation, Governor Okpebholo assured them that their concerns and requests would receive due consideration.

“Let me welcome you, the President-General of Ohaneze. Your requests are very important to me, and I am going to look into them,” he said.

The Governor highlighted ongoing efforts by his administration to improve infrastructure, noting that work had commenced around Uteh, near the market, with proper drainage systems being put in place. He also disclosed that repairs on the mechanic road—described as deplorable—were underway.

On economic growth and development, Governor Okpebholo underscored the need to foster a business-friendly environment.

“As for the market, we will look into it. We must develop our state. Business must thrive here. People who want to do business must not be discouraged. The only way to support them is to ensure peace and a friendly environment. That way, government can also earn revenue through taxes,” he added.

The Ohaneze delegation was led by the Edo State Chapter President, Chief Benjamin Ezewere. The group congratulated Governor Okpebholo on his first year in office and commended him for the tangible achievements recorded so far.

Expressing alignment with the Governor’s SHINE Agenda, the Igbo leaders appealed for the construction of access roads leading to Monee Market along Agbor Road, among other developmental needs that would enhance commerce and community well-being.

The courtesy visit further strengthened the bond between the Edo State Government and the Igbo community, reaffirming mutual commitments to peace, development, and shared economic prosperity.
