  • The Edo State Government has debunked claims by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) alleging that Governor Monday Okpebholo approved N6 billion as compensation to so-called “Fulani terrorists” following the recent Uromi killings. In a strongly-worded statement on Thursday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, described the accusation as a reckless falsehood designed to incite ethnic conflict and destabilise the peace of Edo State. The controversy stems from the events of 28 March, when sixteen hunters from Kano State were killed in the Udune Efandion community of Uromi. In the aftermath, Governor Okpebholo visited Kano to sympathise with the families of the victims and appeal for calm, while a delegation from Kano later travelled to Edo to engage in peace discussions. IPOB, in a statement released on 21 April, alleged that the Governor had secretly approved a N6 billion compensation package to appease the bereaved families a claim which the Edo State Government swiftly dismissed as baseless and inflammatory. “There is no truth whatsoever in the claim that Governor Monday Okpebholo approved or paid N6 billion to any group,” Itua said. “This is a fictitious and malicious lie concocted by IPOB to sow seeds of discord and destabilise the harmony we have nurtured in Edo State.” The government warned that IPOB’s repeated attempts to manipulate public sentiment and incite ethnic hostility under the cover of activism would not succeed in Edo State. “It has become a known tactic of this proscribed group to exploit tragic situations to spread hate and misinformation,” the statement added. “Their agenda of violence and ethnic disintegration has no place here.” Emphasising its commitment to unity, security and justice for all residents, the Edo State Government reaffirmed its stance against any form of ethnic or religious discrimination. The statement also urged security agencies to investigate the source of the inciting publication and prosecute those behind it, stressing that public order and peace must not be jeopardised by dangerous propaganda. “We remain resolute in our commitment to justice, peace and the protection of all Edo people, regardless of background,” the government declared. “We will continue to uphold the values of unity, tolerance and truth in the face of reckless attempts to destabilise our state.”

BCDA Tori Dey Still Get Wahala As Wike Padi George No Gree Comot From Im Office.

Di wahala for leadership of Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) still dey continue, as Dr Dakorinama Alabo George reportedly still dey for di agency, even after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announce Abdulrazak Sa’ad Namdas as im replacement.

Di Presidency announce Namdas appointment on June 26, 2026, and talk say e go replace George. Di Presidency say George don resign because e wan follow for Rivers State election matter. Dem say di new appointment take effect immediately.

But reports wey come out for September talk say George still dey use di agency office and still dey join some official activities. One worker for di agency confirm say George still dey BCDA headquarters. Namdas too talk say e never resume because e still dey wait for im official appointment letter from Office of di Secretary to di Government of di Federation (OSGF).

George don work before as Commissioner for Works for Rivers State under former Governor Nyesom Wike, and e later continue work under Governor Siminalayi Fubara. George also join APC governorship screening for Rivers State for 2026, but e later comot from di race before di party primary.

Reports link im withdrawal to support for Kingsley Chinda, wey be politician wey dey close to Wike.

Di matter don also enter di agency business. According to reports based on Daily Trust findings, procurement papers wey BCDA put for im website on September 10 still dey show say di office of Executive Secretary dey handle procurement matters.

Di papers include invitation for companies to submit bids for 2026 capital projects and other supplies. September 23 na di deadline wey dem give for submission.

George don also reject di claim say e resign from BCDA. For one WhatsApp message wey reports previously publish, e talk say e don withdraw from di Rivers governorship race before di primary and say mistake happen for di announcement about im replacement.

But di Presidency don earlier reject di claim say George don get another appointment. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga talk say, “Namdas stays.”

Another thing wey dey make di matter more confusing be say BCDA own website still dey show George as Executive Secretary. Dis one dey create different information about who really get authority to lead di agency.

Some legal and public service people wey reports talk to get different views about di matter. Di main questions include how George resignation take happen, whether di presidential appointment of Namdas don fully take effect and why Namdas never get di appointment letter wey go allow am resume officially.

For now, di main matter still never clear publicly. Di Presidency don announce Namdas as George replacement, but reports say George still dey BCDA, while di agency website still dey show am as Executive Secretary.

Di situation don raise questions about how government agencies dey hand over leadership, who get authority during transition and how federal appointments dey properly document.
