Residents and traders in Benin City have expressed excitement over the ongoing construction of the Ramat Park Flyover as Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, announced that the project is expected to be commissioned in November.

The governor made the announcement on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the project site, where he expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.

Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Okpebholo said the flyover project had recorded significant progress, noting that the surrounding road network and stormwater drainage infrastructure were also receiving attention.

“We have gone round to see how far the construction of the Ramat Park Flyover has progressed. Apart from the flyover, the road network within the area is equally commendable,” he said.

According to the governor, the project has transformed the landscape of the area and is gradually becoming a major attraction.

“This place is now more beautiful than it was before. We are also making serious progress in the stormwater drainage system around the facility. We are hoping that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will come to commission this project by November during the celebration of my two years in office,” he added.

Okpebholo said work would continue on the adjoining park to ensure the entire facility is completed before the commissioning date.

He also commended the Federal Government’s fuel subsidy removal policy, noting that increased allocations to states had improved their capacity to execute projects and meet financial obligations.

The Project Manager, Li Jianshou, disclosed that the flyover project had reached over 95 per cent completion.

According to him, the remaining aspects of the project include the installation of streetlights, expansion of junctions, road markings, and painting of the bridge.

He assured residents that the project would be completed and ready for commissioning in November.

Residents and traders who gathered at the site during the inspection praised the governor for the project and its impact on the area.

Mrs. Queen Ehanire, a resident, said the flyover had transformed the appearance of Ikpoba Hill and boosted confidence among residents and business owners.

“Benin is more beautiful compared to past years. Governor Okpebholo has done well with this project,” she said.

Another resident, Mr. James Osaigbovo, expressed optimism that the completed flyover would attract more visitors and stimulate commercial activities in the area.

Similarly, commercial driver Mr. David Uwadia said the redesigned park and improved road infrastructure would help ease traffic congestion and enhance transportation around Ramat Park.
