The 2020/2021 400 level law students of the Benson Idahosa University have bestowed an Award of Excellence on the outgone Dean of Faculty of Law, Prof. (Mrs.) Theresa Akpoghome.
The award ceremony was part of activities lined up to commemorate the birthday celebration of one of the 400 level law students, Sir. Lord Osas Osunde.
Presenting the historical Benin Idia statue award to the recipient at a colorful ceremony held at the Faculty, Lord Osas Osunde extolled the virtues of Prof. Akpoghome, saying that her sterling qualities remain unmatched.
Osunde noted that Prof. Akpoghome has been able to nurture the students like a mother and has continued to show them, motherly love, since they came to the institution, describing her as a woman who came, saw, and conquered hence the students deemed it imperative to confer the award on her.
The celebrant also used the occasion to appraise the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki’s development initiative which he said has impacted immensely in the lives of the good people of Edo state since the inception of the present administration.
He said under the present administration, Edo state has regained the top spot among other states of the country with the MEGA agenda.
Osunde further stated that with the MEGA agenda policy, the governor has retained the peoples’ confidence in governance and called on the people to leverage the people’s oriented programs of the state government by continuing to rally around for him to finish well.
The award recipient, Prof. (Mrs.) Theresa Akpoghome who was elated by the award thanked the students for deeming her fit for such an award.
While charging the students to be more focused and determined in terms of studies as well as the reason for which they were in school, Prof. Akpoghome assured that the award would spur her to do more for the student’s community and the society at large.
The high point of the ceremony was the cutting of the cake to mark Osunde’s birthday anniversary.
