“Borno Counterterrorism Breakthrough: Lawmaker Applauds Military Rescue of 360 Boko Haram Captives”
A member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for the successful rescue of 360 individuals held captive by Boko Haram insurgents in the Mandara Mountains area of Borno State, describing the operation as a significant achievement in the country’s ongoing fight against terrorism.
The lawmaker praised the military’s commitment, courage, and professionalism in carrying out the rescue mission under difficult operational conditions. According to reports, the captives were freed during coordinated security operations targeting insurgent hideouts in the rugged terrain of the Mandara Mountains, a region that has long served as a strategic enclave for extremist groups operating in northeastern Nigeria.
The rescue highlights the continued efforts of Nigeria’s security forces to dismantle terrorist networks and secure vulnerable communities affected by more than a decade of insurgency. Boko Haram and its splinter factions have been responsible for thousands of deaths, mass displacements, and widespread humanitarian challenges across Borno State and other parts of the Lake Chad Basin region.
Security analysts note that sustained military offensives, combined with intelligence-led operations and regional cooperation, have contributed to recent gains against insurgent groups. However, they also emphasize that significant challenges remain, including the need for continued security presence, rehabilitation of rescued victims, and long term stabilization of affected communities.
The lawmaker urged continued support for the armed forces and called on relevant authorities to ensure that rescued individuals receive adequate medical care, psychological support, and reintegration assistance. He further stressed the importance of maintaining momentum in counterterrorism operations to prevent insurgents from regrouping and threatening civilian populations.
The latest rescue operation underscores Nigeria’s broader efforts to restore peace and security in the Northeast while addressing the humanitarian consequences of years of conflict. As military operations continue, stakeholders remain focused on achieving lasting stability and protecting communities from extremist violence.
