A section of the popular Samsung building, located at Banex Junction, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, collapsed during construction on Tuesday.
Theincident occurred when the penthouse segment of the three-storey building collapsed during casting.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs for the FCT Emergency Management Department, Nkechi Isa, four out of the ten workers on site sustained injuries and were taken to Wuse General Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.
The Acting Director-General of the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Abdulrahman Mohammed, has appealed to developers to adhere to the building code and ensure on-site safety at all times. Mohammed also urged residents to use the 112 emergency toll-free number in the event of a disaster.
It’s worth noting that the popular Samsung store was completely destroyed in a fire incident just over a year ago. The FCT Emergency Management Department is currently investigating the cause of the building collapse.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of construction sites in Abuja and the need for developers to prioritize the safety of workers and residents. The FCT Emergency Management Department has promised to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
