The chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Edo state, Chief Odion Olaye has emerged as National Delegate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Egor Local Government Area of Edo state.
Chief Odion Olaye polled 145 votes to defeat Pa. Thompson Osaghaede who got 12 votes during the National delegate election conducted yesterday at the Police Training School auditorium, Ogida Police Station.
The returning officer from Abuja Hon Richard Uyi Edebiri who conducted the election alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC representative, Idemudia Iredia declared Chief Olaye winner after the keenly contested election conducted using the option A4 method.
According to him, the delegates came out in an orderly manner and queued behind their preferred candidate and after the exercise Chief Odion Olaye defeated his opponent with 145 votes.
The PDP chairman in Egor local government area, Chief Idehen Ekundayo disclosed that both the local government and wards delegates took part in the election and Chief Odion Olaye polled 145 votes to defeat Pa Thompson Osaghaede that got 12.
“Today Chief Odion Olaye has been elected as the National delegate that will represent the good people of Egor PDP at Abuja.
The newly elected National delegate for Egor PDP, Chief Odion Olaye gave the credit of the victory to God and the delegates from the ten wards and he assured the people that he would not disappoint them when the time comes during the National Delegate election at Abuja
The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon Adaze Andrew Emwanta said “today’s event was indeed a success story considering the large turnout of supporters, noting that the 145 persons entitled to vote are members of the state executive and delegates of Egor PDP and they have made a very loud statement.
“They have unanimously elected Chief Odion Olaye as our National delegate and in the spirit of sportsmanship, his opponent had a hand shake with Chief Olaye to ensure that there is no victor, no vanquish.
“The PDP in Egor today has received a new level of unity, the local government party chairman is here, the secretary and other members of the executive are here, as well as everybody that matters in Egor local government in PDP are all here.
“We are happy that we are sending our best of the best to represent us at Abuja as our National delegate and you can see that in the smile in our faces. This is Democracy in action
