The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Edo State Police Command to ensuring peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral processes across the state.
CP Agbonika gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Edo State Office, led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hon. Obo Effanga, during a courtesy visit to the Police Command headquarters.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the longstanding partnership between INEC and the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in the areas of election security, voter confidence, and the promotion of credible electoral processes.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Effanga said the engagement was intended to reinforce the cordial working relationship between INEC and the Edo State Police Command while exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation towards successful electoral exercises in the state.
In his response, CP Agbonika commended INEC for its commitment to deepening democratic governance through transparent and credible elections. He stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding the electoral process and maintaining public confidence in democratic institutions.
The Police Commissioner assured the electoral body of the Command’s readiness to provide adequate security before, during, and after elections, noting that officers and personnel would continue to discharge their duties with professionalism, neutrality, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
The visit concluded with a renewed pledge by both institutions to work together in ensuring peaceful and successful elections in Edo State.
