The following is a roundup of today’s Nigerian newspapers:
1. A faction of the Pan-Yoruba political organization Afenifere has split apart. Sunday in Lagos, the leaders of the organization New Afenifere met with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and endorsed him.

2. Second, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) five irate governors have announced the creation of the Integrity Group. The G-5 summit in Lagos on Sunday revealed this. All members present at the meeting reaffirmed their stance that they would not be supporting Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s presidential candidacy.

3. Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has asked Nigerians to pray and vote for genuine and visionary leaders in the upcoming 2023 general elections. Yesterday in Abuja, during the 1444AH Annual Maolid Nabiyy celebration hosted by the Ashraaf Islamic Foundation and centered on the topic “Islamic Perspectives on Elections and Good Governance,” he delivered this charge.

4. A fire that started in a tanker on the Benin-Akure Road at Owan Bridge in Sobe town, Edo State, has destroyed five homes, four businesses, two automobiles, and a motorbike. The tanker, which was carrying automotive gas oil, was reportedly traveling north from Benin City when it lost control, spilled its load, and caught fire.

5. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the umbrella Igbo social and cultural organization, has backed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, for the 2023 elections. Ohanaeze saw Obi as symbolizing “the Igbo collective psyche,” “Nigerian conscience,” “moral probity,” “generational hope,” and “redemption epiphany.”

6. On Saturday, a Golf Wagon bus carrying nine people crashed into a dam on Dayi road in Kano State’s Gwarzo Local Government Area. It has been determined that the deceased and four people in the car were traveling from Kano to Katsina State when the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into a dam.

7. Theater Commander of the Counter-terrorism operation, Joint Task Force Northeast, Major General Christopher Musa, has stated that the military will not allow terrorists and criminals to disrupt next year’s general election while Nigeria is under international surveillance.

8. Unless anything unexpected happens, President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to officially launch oil drilling in Bauchi and Gombe States tomorrow. In particular, the President will be present at the Kolmani field site in the states of Bauchi and Gombe for the ground-breaking ceremony of Oil Prospecting Leases (OPLs) 809 and 810.

9. Peoples Democratic Party national chairman Iyorchia Ayu yesterday called on Nigerians to blame the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the country’s ills. Ayu blamed the APC-led administration for the country’s economic woes and said it had brought untold suffering to the people.

On Sunday, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso told his critics to “perish the concept” that he would resign as the party’s nominee because “for us in the NNPP and Kwankwasiyya, our party is on the correct road to secure the leadership of the nation.”
