Dr Cyril Oshiomhole commemorates the 14th remembrance of his mother, Mrs. Clara Aiyebho Adams Oshiomhole

Today, we solemnly commemorate the 14th anniversary of the passing of a remarkable woman, Her Excellency, Mrs. Clara Aiyebho Adams Oshiomhole. A beacon of grace, strength, and compassion, she left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though breast cancer took her from us too soon, her legacy continues to inspire transformative actions in health and beyond.

Her untimely departure ignited in me, her son, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, an unwavering resolve to champion the fight against cancer. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to advancing clinical research, seeking innovative solutions to this global menace. Just yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the 84th Nigerian Surgical Research Society Scientific Conference, where the theme, “Collaborative and Multi-Disciplinary Approaches to Cancer Research: Finding Solutions Beyond Borders,” reaffirmed the necessity of collective efforts in this fight.

This remembrance is not just a moment to grieve but an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the cause of saving lives. Edo State, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Monday Okpebholo, is poised to lead in cancer care and research, setting a benchmark for innovation and excellence. Through strategic collaborations with international institutions and stakeholders, we are building a future where no family will endure the pain of losing a loved one to this disease.

My mother’s life, though brief, was a testament to courage and resilience. Her memory serves as a guiding light in my work as the Honourable Commissioner for Health, and it fuels my commitment to a healthier, cancer-free tomorrow.

As we remember her today, let us honor her legacy by embracing the fight against cancer with renewed vigor. Together, through collaboration and determination, we can transform the pain of loss into a beacon of hope for generations to come.
