Dual Trailer Crashes Trigger Severe Gridlock on Lagos’ Gbagada Expressway.

Motorists faced significant traffic disruption on the Gbagada Expressway in Lagos on Thursday, August 13, 2026, following two separate accidents involving heavy duty vehicles and several cars.

According to a report by PUNCH, the first major crash involved two trucks and caused a serious obstruction on the busy expressway. A second accident occurred further along the road near Charlie Boy, involving two trailers and five other vehicles. The incidents resulted in a heavy build-up of traffic as motorists struggled to navigate the affected sections of the road.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), supported by tow trucks and a forklift, were deployed to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow. LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare Oki, said the agency had been at the scene since about 5 a.m. He explained that one of the trucks involved in the first crash had already been removed, while recovery operations continued on the remaining vehicle. A crane was also being arranged to assist with the operation.

At the secondary crash site near Charlie Boy, the five affected vehicles had reportedly been evacuated, while recovery teams worked to remove the two trailers that remained on the road. The latest incident again highlights the traffic risks posed by heavy duty vehicles on Lagos’ major transport corridors and the potential for road crashes to quickly escalate into widespread congestion. Motorists using the Gbagada Expressway are advised to exercise caution and follow directions from traffic management officials as recovery operations continue.
