Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Parry Benjamin Osayande, CFR, describing him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s security history.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Governor said the late DIG was an “exemplary icon of professionalism and patriotism” who dedicated his life to the service of his community, Edo State, and the nation.

“Our State has lost a giant, a man of impeccable character whose contributions to the peace and security of Nigeria, and specifically to the history of the defunct Bendel State and our current Edo State, can never be forgotten,” Okpebholo said.

He recalled Osayande’s years as Commissioner of Police in Bendel State in the 1980s, where he confronted some of the country’s most notorious criminal gangs. “The name Parry Osayande is synonymous with courage, discipline, and a sterling commitment to justice,” he added.

Okpebholo further noted that Osayande’s influence went beyond policing operations, pointing to his role as a reformer who contributed to several presidential and police reform committees. “Even in retirement, DIG Osayande remained a national asset, lending his immense experience to critical reforms aimed at restructuring the police for better service delivery,” the Governor said.

He prayed for the repose of Osayande’s soul and asked God to grant his family and associates the strength to bear the loss.

Born in Edo State, Osayande rose through the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force, eventually serving as Deputy Inspector General before retirement. He was honoured with the national award of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
