Edo Police Debunk Alleged Kidnap of Green Park Academy Students, Launch Probe into False Report

The Edo State Police Command has dismissed as false a social media report claiming that students of Green Park Academy, Aduwawa, Benin City, were kidnapped.

According to the Command, investigations revealed that no kidnapping incident occurred at the school, contrary to claims circulated online by a woman popularly known as “Azawoman.”

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikioedem, the Command described the report as misleading, unfounded, and deliberately designed to create panic among residents.

The police said preliminary findings confirmed that the allegation lacked any factual basis and was intended to spread misinformation and cause unnecessary fear within the state.

The Command condemned the dissemination of false information, warning that such actions undermine public confidence, create anxiety, and distract security agencies from addressing genuine security concerns.

Authorities have commenced efforts to track down and apprehend the originator of the report for questioning and possible prosecution in line with existing laws.

The Police Command urged members of the public to verify information through credible and official sources before sharing it on social media. Residents were also encouraged to report security-related issues through appropriate channels to enable prompt verification and response.

Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, reassured residents that the security situation in Edo State remains under control and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

He also appreciated the cooperation of law-abiding citizens and called for continued support in maintaining peace, security, and public order across the state.
