Edo Police Launch Statewide Outreach, Walkathon, Medical Drive for 2026 National Police Day

The Edo State Police Command has announced its participation in the 2026 National Police Day celebrations, with a series of activities scheduled across the state from March 30 to April 7.

The nationwide event, which will culminate in a grand finale in Abuja, is themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust,” reflecting a renewed focus on strengthening collaboration between the police and the public.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the Edo Command has lined up community-focused programmes aimed at promoting public trust, transparency, and effective policing.

Activities will begin on Monday, March 30, with an environmental sanitation exercise in designated areas across the state. This will be accompanied by a free medical outreach at Ring Road, Benin City, targeted at providing healthcare services to vulnerable residents. Town hall meetings with key stakeholders will also be held.

On Tuesday, March 31, the Command will organise a walkathon within Benin City to promote unity, physical fitness, and stronger police-community relations.

Community engagement efforts will continue on Wednesday, April 1, with public sensitisation campaigns at strategic locations. The campaigns will focus on the dangers of electoral violence, responsible civic behaviour, and road safety awareness.

Activities for Thursday, April 2, will be dedicated to honouring fallen police officers, including support initiatives for their families within the Command.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, said the programmes are designed to go beyond ceremonial observances, noting that they represent practical steps toward building trust and fostering collaboration with the public.

He called on community leaders, youth groups, market associations, civil society organisations, and religious bodies to actively participate in the events, particularly the medical outreach and walkathon.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents, stressing the importance of sustained partnership between the police and the community in achieving a safer Edo State.
