The Edo State Police Command has recorded another success in its ongoing fight against kidnapping, following the arrest of two suspected kidnappers in Iyamho, near Edo State University.
The suspects, Sani Kabir (23) and Hamza Nuhu (25), were arrested on April 27, 2026, at about 10:35 a.m. Operatives of the Iyamho Division acted on credible intelligence after reports of suspicious activity in the area, which has recently raised security concerns.
Police sources said the operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer, whose team moved in quickly and apprehended the suspects without incident. A search carried out at the scene led to the recovery of two Dane guns, one live AK-47 round, two cutlasses, a police woven headgear, a hunter’s headlamp, four cans of gunpowder, assorted charms, and several locally made bullets.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner assured residents that the command remains committed to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. He stressed that Edo will not be allowed to become a safe haven for criminal elements.
He also commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, while urging members of the public to continue sharing useful information with security agencies. According to him, effective policing depends on cooperation between the police and the community.
The Edo State Police Command says it will sustain ongoing operations aimed at curbing kidnapping and improving safety across the state.
