The title-deciding encounter, held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, saw the Benin City-based side display remarkable resilience, tactical discipline, and composure to hold their opponents and clinch the championship.

The result confirmed Edo Queens as the best-performing team in the Super Six playoffs, capping a remarkable campaign that showcased determination, teamwork, and consistency under the guidance of head coach Moses Aduku.

The triumph marks another significant milestone for Aduku, who has now won his second NWFL title in three years with Edo Queens and his third league championship overall.

Reacting to the achievement, Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, dedicated the victory to Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in recognition of his unwavering support for sports development in the state.

Enabulele commended the players and technical crew for their outstanding performances throughout the competition, describing the championship as a reward for hard work, discipline, and self-belief.

According to him, the team’s ability to bounce back from an opening defeat to Nasarawa Amazons demonstrated the character and fighting spirit that define Edo Queens.

“This victory belongs to everyone who believes in the Edo Queens project. The girls have shown tremendous commitment, discipline, and hunger for success. They fought for every ball, stayed focused, and proved that with determination and the right support, they can overcome any challenge,” Enabulele said.

“I am particularly proud of how the team responded after the first game. They did not lose confidence; instead, they regrouped, worked harder, and produced outstanding performances that eventually made them champions. This is a team with character, and they deserve every honour that comes with this achievement,” he added.

The Sports Commission Chairman also praised Coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew for their tactical expertise and leadership throughout the competition.

“The coaches have done an excellent job. They built a team that believes in itself and represents the values of Edo State—resilience, excellence, and unity. This title is a reward for the collective efforts of the players, coaches, management, and everyone who supported the team,” he stated.

Enabulele further expressed appreciation to Governor Okpebholo for creating an enabling environment for sports to thrive, assuring that the administration remains committed to supporting athletes and promoting sporting excellence across the state.

Edo Queens finished top of the Super Six standings with 10 points, recovering impressively from their opening defeat to record emphatic victories over FC Robo Queens (4-1) and Abia Angels (6-2), before securing the decisive draw against Bayelsa Queens that sealed the title.

In other Matchday Five fixtures, Nasarawa Amazons and hosts Rivers Angels settled for a goalless draw at the Mini Stadium in Port Harcourt, while Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens played out a 1-1 draw.

Final NWFL Super Six Standings

1. Edo Queens – 10 Points (+7)
2. Bayelsa Queens – 8 Points (+2)
3. Nasarawa Amazons – 8 Points (0)
4. Abia Angels – 6 Points (-1)
5. FC Robo Queens – 4 Points (-2)
6. Rivers Angels – 3 Points (-4)

With the title secured, Edo Queens will now represent Nigeria at the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, where they will compete for a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League
