The Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah, and the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Joy Ihensekhien, have been honoured as Ambassadors of the Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT).

The recognition was conferred during a courtesy visit by members of SWIT, Edo State Chapter, to the Ministry in Benin City, where both parties also explored opportunities for strategic collaboration.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Joy Ihensekhien, expressed appreciation for the honour and commended SWIT for its sustained efforts in promoting tax awareness, particularly among women.

She noted that taxation remains a critical tool for sustainable development, adding that ongoing tax reforms by the state government are aimed at strengthening public institutions, improving service delivery, and enhancing the overall quality of life for citizens.

According to her, increased awareness of civic responsibilities, especially among women, would boost voluntary compliance and deepen public accountability.

She further assured SWIT of the Ministry’s readiness to partner on initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and socio-economic inclusion through tax education.

Earlier, the National Chairperson of SWIT, Chief Dr. Caroline Ndubuisi, said the organisation— the female arm of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria— is committed to encouraging women’s participation in the tax profession, while promoting excellence, continuous education, and public awareness.

Ndubuisi added that SWIT is open to collaboration with the Ministry in areas such as taxpayer education, policy advocacy, and revenue optimisation, aimed at strengthening integrity and inclusiveness within the tax system.
