Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos, sitting as a vacation judge, delivered the ruling after the suspects pleaded guilty to cybercrime charges brought against them.
The convicts — Adewale Adenekan, Oyatokun Qudus, and Adisa Okikiade — were arraigned on separate charges of impersonation and online fraud.
Adenekan admitted guilt and confirmed that he had already refunded ₦200,000. The EFCC also tendered an iPhone 14 Pro Max as an exhibit. He was sentenced to one month in prison with an option of a ₦300,000 fine.
Qudus was convicted on similar charges and received the same sentence: one month in prison or a ₦300,000 fine.
Okikiade was charged for posing online as an American named “Anthony Krenn” in order to deceive victims. He also pleaded guilty and was convicted with an option of a fine.
Court documents revealed that the fraudsters created fake online identities — including pretending to be white women on social media — to defraud unsuspecting victims between 2024 and 2025. Their actions violated provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015.
This conviction follows a series of EFCC operations around the Obasanjo Library complex in Abeokuta, where dozens of suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested in recent months.
