The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, has extended warm felicitations to Muslims and non-Muslims alike on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir.
In his goodwill message, Comrade Alenkhe noted that a good life is not accidental but built through consistent prayers, humility, sacrifice, and patience. He urged everyone to reflect on the significance of the season, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to the will of Allah.
According to him, Eid-el-Kabir stands as a celebration of faith, sacrifice, submission, and truthfulness to divine directives. He reminded the faithful that the festival holds on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, coinciding with the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
The Edo NUJ boss also charged journalists in the state to remain committed to reporting that deepens democracy and promotes national unity. He reaffirmed that members of the press are empowered by Chapter 2, Section 22 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended) to hold the government accountable and uphold the fundamental objectives of the nation.
Comrade Alenkhe stressed the need for strict adherence to professional ethics and standards, adding that the mass media remains a critical instrument in promoting transparency, good governance, and responsible leadership.
He wished all Muslims in Edo State, Nigeria, and beyond a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
