ESSN Arrests Two Suspects With Large Cache of Illicit Drugs in Edo

The Edo State Security Network (ESSN) has arrested two suspected drug dealers in separate operations across Benin City, Edo State, as part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of illicit drug activities.

The suspects, identified as Efosa Uyi and Stella Thompson, were apprehended at different locations within Benin City with large quantities of suspected illicit substances allegedly meant for distribution to users.

Items recovered from the suspects include Indian hemp, crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as Ice), Colorado (Colos), Canadian Loud, and Scottish Loud. The substances were seized in significant quantities during the operations.

Speaking to journalists on the arrests, the Commissioner for Public Security and Safety, Hon. Festus Ebea, warned drug dealers and users to steer clear of Edo State, stressing that the government remains committed to eliminating drug-related crimes.

According to Ebea, the suspects will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

“We have arrested two suspects at different locations in Benin City and will hand them over to the NDLEA. We are working closely with the agency to rid the state of individuals involved in drug-related activities,” he said.

“We are not relenting in our efforts to comb every part of the state to identify and apprehend drug dealers and users. These suspects were arrested on Friday, May 29, 2026, with a large quantity of illicit drugs. We want to use this opportunity to warn those involved in the sale and distribution of drugs that Edo State is no longer safe for their operations.”

The commissioner also urged young people to avoid drug abuse, describing it as destructive to both individual lives and society.

“Drug abuse has no positive impact on anyone. It destroys lives, limits opportunities, and ultimately degrades individuals in society. Our goal is to protect our youths by removing those who sell and distribute these harmful substances,” he added.

Ebea further called on journalists and members of the public to monitor the prosecution of drug-related cases to ensure justice is served and to deter others from engaging in similar crimes.

He noted that many criminal activities are often linked to drug abuse, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to combat the menace.

“Most criminal activities are connected to drug use. Those involved often rely on drugs to carry out their criminal acts. That is why we are determined to tackle the problem at its root and make Edo State safer for all residents,” Ebea stated.
