In a recent development, Nigerian businessman Oladapo Ogundipe has expressed his dissatisfaction with the outcome of the coroner’s inquest into the death of his daughter, Alanis. Alanis tragically died by suicide in the United Kingdom, allegedly after being blackmailed by her boyfriend, Ryan Leggetts.Father faults outcome of coroner’s inquest into British-born daughter’s death

According to reports from , Alanis, a 26-year-old accountant, took her own life by jumping into a moving train at a station in Manchester. It is believed that her boyfriend had broken into her phone, copied her documents, and threatened to expose her private information to the public.

Oladapo, the bereaved father, has raised concerns about the response he received after sharing evidence with the police authorities. He recently attended a preliminary inquest into the incident in Bolton, Manchester, where he expressed his dissatisfaction with the conduct of the proceedings.

During the inquest, Oladapo alleged that he was initially prevented from providing evidence against Ryan Leggetts, who was also present at the hearing. He claimed that the lawyer representing his family, acting on the instruction of his wife, Josephine, instructed the court not to allow him to present evidence. However, the coroner overruled the objection, and Oladapo was eventually permitted to give evidence.

Oladapo further stated that the lawyer also opposed a question he had prepared to prove that Leggetts had accessed Alanis’ phone without her consent. He wanted to ask why Leggetts had allegedly refused to tell the police the truth about his access to Alanis’ phone.

The coroner’s inquest report, which our correspondent has seen, states that Alanis died by suicide due to financial difficulties. The report also mentions the possible breakdown of a long-term relationship in which her partner had been loving and supportive. However, Oladapo disputes this claim, asserting that his daughter had access to money and did not experience financial difficulties.

He questions why Alanis would be desperate or commit suicide when she was expecting £100,000 from him. He also points out that significant amounts of money were deposited into her account and that she had recently gone on a holiday to Italy. Oladapo challenges the notion that the boyfriend could end the relationship after demanding money if he had truly been loving and supportive.

As an interested person in the inquest, Oladapo believes that he was not given the opportunity to fully participate in the process and assist the coroner’s inquiry. He emphasizes that questioning witnesses is a significant right conferred on interested persons during an inquest, and he was deprived of this right as the father of Alanis.

The outcome of this coroner’s inquest raises important questions about the circumstances surrounding Alanis’ tragic death. Oladapo’s concerns regarding the conduct of the proceedings and the evidence presented warrant further investigation to ensure a fair and comprehensive understanding of the events leading to her suicide.
