FIFA Investment Plan Faces Mounting Crisis as Gianni Infantino’s Senior Adviser Resigns Amid Global Opposition.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing growing resistance over a proposed investment strategy after one of his senior advisers stepped down and several continental football confederations reportedly rejected the plan, raising fresh concerns about the future direction of world football’s governing body.

The resignation of the senior adviser comes at a critical time, as FIFA continues to pursue an investment initiative designed to generate additional revenue and expand financial opportunities across the global football ecosystem. However, the proposal has encountered increasing scrutiny from key stakeholders who have questioned its governance, transparency and long-term implications for member associations.

According to multiple international reports, three continental football confederations have expressed opposition to the investment proposal, signalling a widening divide within FIFA’s leadership structure. The objections underscore broader concerns over how external investment could influence the governance, commercial independence and strategic priorities of global football.

While FIFA has consistently promoted financial innovation as a means of accelerating football development worldwide, critics argue that any investment framework involving private capital must be subject to rigorous oversight and broad consultation with member associations to safeguard the integrity of the sport.

The resignation of a senior adviser has further intensified attention on the proposal, with observers interpreting the move as evidence of internal disagreements over the direction of the investment strategy. Although FIFA has not publicly linked the resignation to the controversy, the timing has fuelled speculation about divisions within the organisation.

The development comes as FIFA continues implementing ambitious reforms and expanding its commercial footprint through larger international tournaments and new revenue generating initiatives. Any sustained opposition from influential confederations could complicate efforts to secure broad consensus on future financial reforms.

Analysts note that maintaining unity among FIFA’s member confederations will be essential as the organisation seeks to balance commercial growth with transparency, accountability and the interests of football stakeholders worldwide.

FIFA has yet to announce whether it will revise the investment proposal in response to the growing criticism.
