Former Kano LG Chairman Returns to Tailoring After Office, Champions Vocational Skills and Self Reliance.

Former Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government Area in Kano State, Abdullahi Gali Shitu, has returned to his tailoring business following the completion of his tenure in public office, drawing widespread attention for his message on the dignity of labour and the importance of vocational skills.

Images and reports circulating on social media show the former council chairman back at his sewing workshop, where he has resumed tailoring a trade he practiced before entering politics. His decision has been widely praised by many Nigerians, who see it as a positive example of self reliance and a reminder that political office should not be viewed as a lifelong career.

Speaking on his return to the profession, Shitu reportedly encouraged young people and public office holders to acquire practical skills that can provide sustainable livelihoods beyond government appointments. He stressed that vocational training and entrepreneurship remain vital pathways to economic independence, particularly in a country where public sector opportunities are limited.

His story has reignited conversations about life after public service, with commentators highlighting the need for political leaders to maintain professions or businesses outside government. Analysts say Shitu’s transition demonstrates that leadership and productive private enterprise are not mutually exclusive and that skilled trades continue to play a critical role in Nigeria’s economic development.

The development also aligns with ongoing national discussions on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and job creation. As Nigeria seeks to address unemployment and promote inclusive economic growth, vocational education and technical skills are increasingly being recognized as essential tools for improving livelihoods and reducing dependence on government employment.

Shitu’s return to tailoring has resonated with many across the country, reinforcing the message that no legitimate profession is beneath anyone and that sustainable skills can provide stability long after political careers come to an end.
