Dem call di app Marrify, and dem launch am for Accra through partnership between Ghana Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and MarryRight, organisation wey dey work around marriage and family law.

Di main reason for di app na to help people confirm important marriage information before dem enter serious relationship or decide to marry.

Ghana Gender Minister, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, talk say people wey dey plan marriage no suppose depend only on wetin their partner tell dem about whether dem single, married or don divorce.

She advise people make dem do their own checks before dem take serious marriage decision.

Reports about di app talk say Marrify bring different marriage information come one digital platform.

Di information wey person fit check reportedly include marriage registration records, places wey government approve for marriage, people wey get authority to conduct marriage and divorce records.

Some reports also talk say di system dey get information from places like Ghana Registrar-General’s Department, courts, local assemblies and Ghana Gazette.

Di launch come at time wey some people dey enter relationship or marriage without knowing everything about their partner’s previous marriage history.

For some cases, person fit marry somebody only to later discover say di person don marry before, or say di person still dey legally married to another person.

This kind discovery fit bring serious emotional, financial and legal wahala for di people involved.

Di Ghana government-backed project therefore dey encourage people to verify important information before dem commit themselves to marriage.

Minister Lartey don connect di need for proper verification with responsible relationship and efforts to reduce gender-based violence.

She say people wey dey prepare for marriage suppose look well into things like their partner’s marital status, di place wey dem wan conduct di marriage and di person wey go officiate di ceremony.

But as Marrify dey come into use, questions still dey about how complete and accurate di information for di platform go be, and how dem go protect people private information.

Some people online don already raise concern about whether every marriage record dey inside di system and how di app go handle sensitive personal information.

These concerns show why di authorities need make sure say marriage records dey correct, regularly updated and properly protected from misuse.

Marrify dey show how digital technology fit help make public and legal services easier for people across Africa.

For this particular case, di aim na to give people better opportunity to make marriage decisions based on information wey dem fit verify, instead of depending only on wetin their partner tell dem.

For people wey dey Ghana and dey prepare to marry, di message from di initiative clear: before you talk say “I do”, make sure say you sabi di real marital status of di person wey you wan marry.
