Gov Okpebholo Hails Provost for Revitalising Igueben College of Education

BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commended the Provost of Edo State College of Education, Igueben, Dr. Victoria Okojie, for revitalising the institution within five months of her appointment.

The governor gave the commendation on Tuesday when the management of the college paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Benin City.

Okpebholo said the remarkable progress recorded by the institution in a short period reflected the competence, professionalism, and leadership qualities of the provost.

“First of all, let me thank you for your efforts in growing the school within just five months of your appointment. At a time, I thought the institution was completely written off, but with your efforts, a lot has been achieved within the shortest time possible,” he said.

The governor noted that the administration was confident in Okojie’s ability before her appointment, describing her as a capable professional with a proven track record.

“We knew your capability, we knew who you are and your professionalism. I had no doubt that you were going to succeed,” he added.

Okpebholo assured the college management that some of their requests were achievable, adding that he planned to visit the institution to assess its needs firsthand and determine areas where the state government could provide support.

Earlier, Dr. Okojie expressed appreciation to the governor for increasing the institution’s monthly subvention from N19 million to N100 million.

She said the management had focused on strengthening the institution’s internal quality assurance system, as well as improving staff and student welfare since assuming office.

The provost, however, appealed to the governor to provide shuttle buses for students to ease transportation challenges on campus.

She also identified key areas requiring government intervention, including campus security, additional student accommodation, staff quarters, and the rehabilitation of the institution’s internal road network.

According to her, addressing these challenges would further enhance teaching, learning, and the overall development of the college.
