“Hajj 2026: Nigerian Pilgrims Begin Journey from Madinah to Makkah as NAHCON Airlifts Over 9,700 Worshippers”
Nigerian pilgrims participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise have commenced their movement from the holy city of Madinah to Makkah following the completion of their traditional four-day stay in the Prophet’s City, Saudi Arabia.
The development was confirmed by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), which disclosed that more than 9,700 Nigerian pilgrims had already been successfully transported as part of the ongoing Hajj operations coordinated between Nigerian authorities and Saudi officials.
According to NAHCON, the movement marks a critical phase in the annual Islamic pilgrimage, as worshippers proceed to Makkah to continue religious rites ahead of the core Hajj activities. The commission stated that the transportation process has so far remained orderly, with logistics arrangements involving accredited airlines, state pilgrims welfare boards, and Saudi authorities working according to schedule.
Officials noted that pilgrims spent four days in Madinah engaging in prayers and visits to significant Islamic historical sites, including the revered Al-Masjid an Nabawi, before departing for Makkah. The movement to Makkah is regarded as one of the most important transitions during the Hajj pilgrimage, requiring extensive coordination to ensure safety, accommodation, and transportation efficiency.
NAHCON also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage season. The commission urged pilgrims to comply with Saudi regulations, maintain discipline, and follow instructions issued by officials to ensure a smooth Hajj exercise.
Nigeria remains one of Africa’s largest contributors to the annual Hajj pilgrimage, with thousands of Muslims travelling yearly to Saudi Arabia for one of Islam’s five pillars. Religious observers and stakeholders have continued to emphasize the importance of improved logistics, healthcare support, and welfare services for pilgrims amid increasing global participation in the spiritual exercise.
The 2026 Hajj operations are being closely monitored by both Nigerian and Saudi authorities as preparations intensify for the major rites expected in the coming days.
