Tinubu Has Shown South-East Unprecedented Love’ — Presidential Aide Urges Massive 2027 Support

ABUJA — Mrs. Chioma Nweze, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement for the South-East, has called on residents of the zone to massively support the President in the 2027 general election, citing what she described as unprecedented infrastructure development in the region. Nweze made the appeal on Sunday after an inspection tour of ongoing federal road projects in the South-East alongside the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi. According to Nweze, the scale of road construction and rehabilitation currently ongoing in the region under the Tinubu administration is the most extensive in Nigeria’s history. “This is unprecedented in the annals of the country, as the President has demonstrated unbridled love and affection for the people of the zone,” she said. She pointed to several key projects, including the construction of a new superhighway that traverses multiple states, with a major section passing through Ebonyi. Nweze described the superhighway as a “transformative initiative” that will boost trade, ease transportation, and connect communities across the South-East and beyond. “The project will facilitate movement of goods and people, strengthen economic ties, and open up new opportunities for businesses in the region,” she said. The presidential aide also commended Senator Umahi for what she called his hands-on supervision of federal projects nationwide. “You are greatly repaying the confidence reposed in you by the President when he entrusted this responsibility to you,” Nweze told the Works Minister during the inspection. She specifically praised ongoing work on the *Ndibe Bridge* and other strategic federal highways in the South-East. Nweze recalled the poor state of the *Afikpo-Okigwe Federal Highway* in previous years, saying it was once both deplorable and insecure. “I remember we prayed fervently whenever family members travelled that road because of its condition and vulnerability,” she said. “But the story has changed today, as you have deployed your engineering ingenuity to make travel on the road seamless.” Nweze said the infrastructure gains should translate into political support for President Tinubu in 2027. “President Tinubu, therefore, deserves to be voted for massively by the region in appreciation and to sustain this unrivalled development,” she stated. She argued that the South-East “cannot wish for a better leader at the helm” at a time when federal projects are visibly impacting daily life. Beyond roads, Nweze urged South-East students to take advantage of the *Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND*, which she said was designed to reduce financial barriers to higher education. “NELFUND ensures that more students from the South-East have access to quality education. Government programmes like this should be embraced,” she said. She noted that education, like infrastructure, is central to the administration’s plan to give young people in the region more opportunities. The tour and Nweze’s remarks come as political mobilisation ahead of 2027 begins to gather pace. For the Tinubu administration, delivering visible projects in the South-East is seen as key to broadening its support base beyond its traditional strongholds. The superhighway, Ndibe Bridge, and rehabilitated federal roads are being positioned as evidence that the government is addressing long-standing complaints about federal presence in the zone. Analysts say infrastructure has become the main argument the presidency is using to engage the South-East electorate — alongside security and economic programmes. While Nweze’s comments were welcomed by some APC stakeholders in the South-East, reactions across the region remain mixed. Supporters say the pace of road works under Umahi is noticeable and long overdue. Critics argue that more needs to be done on security, job creation, and inclusion in federal appointments. “When you see the level of work on these roads and bridges, you cannot deny that something is happening,” she said. “The people should reward that commitment with their votes.” With two years to the next general election, the Tinubu administration appears set to use infrastructure delivery as a key campaign tool in the South-East. For Nweze, the message is simple: the projects are real, the impact is being felt, and continuity is needed to finish the work. “The superhighway, the bridges, the highways — these are not just roads. They are lifelines for our economy and our people,” she said.
