Residents of Isheri Estate near the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are concerned for the safety of their properties after an evacuated building was looted by hoodlums.

The incident reportedly happened on Monday night when three young men broke into a building within Riverview Estate. After looting, they attempted to escape by scaling the fence. A security guard on duty spotted them and gave chase, resulting in the capture of one suspect, while the others fled.

Abayomi Akinde, chairman of Riverview Estate, described the scene, saying he joined the security guard in chasing the intruders. Though he eventually returned, he later learned that the suspect was apprehended, as he was unfamiliar with the area and struggled to find a way out. The suspect sustained injuries while trying to escape through thorny weeds in the floodwaters.

Further investigation revealed that the lead suspect had previously worked at a local business and later led authorities to an accomplice. Other residents expressed alarm, noting that the incident has increased fear within the community, especially among those temporarily displaced by the flood.

Resident Kola Balogun mentioned that many residents have been returning to check on their properties, while others have made calls to confirm the security of their homes. The full extent of any property damage will only be clear once the floodwaters recede and residents can fully return.

The flooding followed a release of water from the Oyan River Dam, prompting evacuations and leaving some properties vulnerable in the affected areas.
