Hiplife duo 2Toff nearly disappeared from Ghana’s music scene for good. For Richard Oguns, popularly known as Ogunskele, the breakup wasn’t about ego or creative differences. It was grief, loss, and a series of tragedies that made making music feel impossible.

In a conversation with _Graphic Showbiz_ on July 16 2026, Ogunskele opened up about the events that tore the group apart nearly two decades ago, and how a reconnection with Stonebwoy helped bring 2Toff back with a new single that is now topping chart: “I Lost Everything” — How Tragedy, Fire and Betrayal Broke Up 2Toff, And Stonebwoy Helped Bring Them Backhe trouble began in 2007. Ogunskele was involved in a fatal car accident on the Tema Motorway with his wife and daughter.

“I lost my daughter in the crash,” he said. “It was the darkest moment of my life, and it changed everything for me.”

The loss devastated him and stalled his career. At the time, 2Toff — made up of Ogunskele and RedEye Nature — was one of the promising acts in the Hiplife scene. But after the accident, Ogunskele says he could barely function, let alone record.

As if the grief wasn’t enough, problems started between him and his music partner.

“I had issues with my partner driving a wedge in our friendship,” Ogunskele explained.

The rift grew until the two were barely speaking. And before they could repair things, another blow hit: their studio was completely razed by fire.

“So the accident, fire outbreak among others, made it virtually impossible to hold things together, and that was really the beginning of our breakup,” he said.

With no studio, no unity, and Ogunskele still dealing with personal loss, 2Toff went quiet. For years, fans wondered what happened to the duo behind hits that once dominated radio.

The comeback didn’t start in a studio. It started on a podcast.Ogunskele appeared on a show hosted by DJ Slim where he spoke about his early encounters with Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale when they were still upcoming artistes. He shared stories from over a decade ago, back when he and RedEye Nature were active and crossing paths with the next generation.

After the episode aired, Stonebwoy called Ogunskele from the US. When Stonebwoy returned to Ghana, the two met in person.

“We talked and that eventually led to the birth of _Yearning For You_, which is currently the biggest banger in town,” Ogunskele said.

_Yearning For You_, featuring Stonebwoy, was released on May 28, 2026. It’s an Afro-fusion track that blends 2Toff’s signature Hiplife sound with a modern, romantic feel. The song quickly climbed to No. 1 on the Shazam Ghana Top 200 Songs Chart.

Ogunskele says he wasn’t planning a comeback. He had stepped back, and was only focused on healing and family. But encouragement from friends, family, and especially Stonebwoy pulled him back in.

“Honestly, his quick response really touched me and reminded me how much people still cared about what 2Toff represented,” he said.

That reconnection pushed him and RedEye Nature to sit down together again. For the first time in years, they wrote and recorded as a duo.

“Looking back now, I’m grateful we took that step, because it’s become the number one romantic hit song in Ghana,” he added.

Ogunskele was candid about how hard the last 18 years have been. Losing a child, losing a studio, and losing a partnership almost made him quit music entirely.

But the response to _Yearning For You_ has shown him that the music and the message still matter to people.

The song’s success has also rekindled interest in 2Toff’s catalog, with younger listeners discovering the duo for the first time through the Stonebwoy collaboration.

For now, Ogunskele says the focus is on the music and rebuilding the bond with RedEye Nature. The two are working on more material and performing again after a long break

“We didn’t plan to come back like this,” he said. “But sometimes life brings you back through the people you least expect.”

2Toff’s story is one of loss, but also of resilience. From a fatal accident on the Tema Motorway, to a burned studio, to a broken partnership — the duo had every reason to walk away.

Instead, a podcast, a phone call, and one collaboration have given them a second chapter.

_Yearning For You_ is more than a chart-topper. For Ogunskele, it’s proof that even after your darkest moment, music — and friendship — can find its way back
