IHSAN Honours UBTH CMD Prof. Idia Ize Iyamu for Leadership and Hospital Development.

The Institute of Health Service Administrators of Nigeria (IHSAN), UBTH Chapter, has honoured the Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize Iyamu, with an Award of Recognition for her contributions to the development of the hospital and healthcare administration.

The award was presented during a meeting between the IHSAN UBTH Chapter leadership and the hospital management. The institute commended the efforts of the management in improving staff welfare and professional development.

While receiving the award, Prof. Ize Iyamu thanked the IHSAN executive for the recognition and support. She said the hospital management would continue to build on the progress recorded under the UBTH CARES Agenda, particularly in the areas of staff welfare, training and capacity building, as well as continuous improvement in healthcare services.

The UBTH CARES Agenda is part of the management’s strategic plan for the hospital, focusing on improved service delivery, hospital development, staff welfare and the long term growth of the institution.

The Chairman of IHSAN UBTH Chapter, Uwaila Ilesammi Joshua Esq., congratulated Prof. Ize Iyamu and commended the management for its efforts to improve staff welfare and professional development.

Joshua also stressed the need for the initiatives to continue, while encouraging management and IHSAN to explore additional ways to improve workers’ welfare and workplace support. He pledged that IHSAN would continue to collaborate with the hospital management to achieve the institution’s goals.

During the meeting, the newly elected IHSAN UBTH Chapter Executive Council members also formally introduced themselves to the Chief Medical Director.

The new executive members are Uwaila Ilesammi Joshua Esq., Chairman; Aibuedefe Amadin Patrick, Vice Chairman; Arebojie Francis, Secretary; and Iyore Clement, Treasurer.

Other members include Ojigho Victor, Provost; Emma Igiebor Gloria, Director of Welfare; Ehigiegba Edward, Financial Secretary; Uwheru Benedict, Public Relations Officer; Abeke Bridget, Assistant Secretary; Mordi Esther, Co opted Executive Member; and Ogbomwan Garvey, Co opted Executive Member.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu became UBTH’s seventh substantive Chief Medical Director and the first woman to occupy the position in the history of the hospital after assuming office in August 2025.

Since she took office, the management has announced various projects and initiatives across the hospital. In August 2026, the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation reported that the Federal Government commended UBTH for improvements recorded in different areas of the hospital, including the Accident and Emergency Complex, mortuary facilities, renal services and paediatric care.

UBTH has also continued to highlight various activities under the CARES Agenda, including projects focused on patient care and institutional development.

The recognition from the IHSAN UBTH Chapter therefore adds to the various acknowledgements and institutional developments associated with the hospital’s current management.

The award also highlights the importance of collaboration between hospital management and professional bodies in promoting staff welfare, workplace development and improved healthcare service delivery.
